The Council advises the Provost on policies and matters that enhance the quality of instruction and promote student learning. It serves as an advisory committee to the Center for Teaching Excellence (www.bc.edu/cte) to support teaching innovation and other teaching-related initiatives. The Council also oversees the Teaching, Advising and Mentoring Grants, Teaching Advising and Mentoring Expense Grants, and the Teaching Retreat.

Each professional school is represented on the Council by one faculty member, with three faculty members representing each of the divisions (humanities, social sciences, natural science /math) of the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences. Faculty are appointed by the Provost on the recommendation of the deans for three-year terms.
