Sarah explained that she would be Chair for one year. Sarah gave a brief recap and report on the status of UCT recommendations made last year under Chris Hepburns direction: Drop/add and withdrawal dates (recommendation submitted); Report on Grade Inflation, Peer Review of Teaching, Student Advising Survey (to be conducted in Spring 2013). With respect to these prior issues there was a short discussion on grade inflation and what the agenda of the administration would be after faculty are shown how their grades compare to the rest of the faculty in their school, etc. Several raised the issue of needing to give feedback to faculty so that decision-making about grade distributions could be impacted. It is not clear that the administration has a plan regarding the monitoring of grades and grade inflation. vvv We spent the rest of the meeting discussing potential topics for UCT consideration in 2012-2013: New academic technologies to foster student-faculty interaction Provost Bert Garza brought up this subject at Convocation as a priority for ɬ﷬ this year, and specifically requested input from both the UCT and the Academic Technology Office on the matter. Rita Owens has already begun to identify technologies, practices, and models of interest at other institutions and will be invited to present her findings at one of the UCT meetings later this year. Our committee discussed how the TAMEs and TAMs can be used to encourage applications that will focus on uses of technology to enhance student-faculty interaction. We will advertise that we are privileging these types of applications. Rita Owens will visit our committee to present ideas. History and other departments are already experimenting with a variety of technologies and we agreed it would be useful to have a presentation at some point about what is already being done. This was also brought up during a broader discussion about these grants and whether the funds are being put to optimal use. Center for Teaching Innovation and Excellence Pat DeLeeuw reported on the recently approved and funded Center for Teaching Innovation and Excellence, which will be located in ONeill Library. Pat reported that it should be up and running in about 12 months and the actual staffing of it is not entirely set yet. Reevaluation of the Core Curriculum We discussed what role, if any, might the UCT play in this conversation, which has been taking place in several circles, including the ILA, the Core Curriculum Development Committee, and the UGɬ﷬. One possible topic to address would be the Cultural Diversity Core, which currently has 284 courses that count towards it. Don Hafner reported that it is widely thought that the core needs to be done at ɬ﷬, not abroad or in other venues. Overall, it is time to think about it since many courses and resources are devoted to it, it has implications for staffing, etc. 34Q[\]fm} H 񺯧xkhh*pOJQJ^JhOJQJ^Jhh@5OJQJ^Jh hhhC +hWh@hh@5h@5OJQJ^Jh6NhOJQJ^Jh6Nhd75OJQJ^Jh6Nh_(5OJQJ^Jh6Nh5OJQJ^Jh6Nh*p5OJQJ^J$ 4Q\]ef 8 : < D F EgdEEugd%gd&I$a$gd=dgd*pgd@Lgd$a$gdgd@$a$gd@$a$gd6N$a$gdH f 6 Q 6 8 : < B D F һvii\Oh6NhOJQJ^Jh6Nh&IOJQJ^Jh6Nh*pOJQJ^Jh6NOJQJ^Jh6Nh=dOJQJ^Jh6Nh OJQJ^Jh6NhOJQJ^JhDOJQJ^JhOJQJ^Jh&IOJQJ^Jhh=dOJQJ^Jhh&IOJQJ^JhEEuOJQJ^JhOJQJ^Jhh XrOJQJ^J&DEFNQqu-/µtj`ShEEuhEEuOJQJ^JhDOJQJ^JhOJQJ^JhEEuh#OJQJ^JhEEuhd7OJQJ^JhEEuh OJQJ^JhEEuh XrOJQJ^JhEEuhOJQJ^JhEEuhV,OJQJ^JhEEuOJQJ^Jh(4MhEEu5OJQJ^Jh(4M5OJQJ^Jh(4Mh&I5OJQJ^Jh6Nh%OJQJ^JEF./]^ij[$\$$$$$$$%%#%gd,gdgd(4MgdV,gdDgdEEugdEEu/\]^zhijkwµug\OBO5Oh(4MhHOJQJ^Jh(4Mh#OJQJ^Jh(4Mh4iOJQJ^Jh(4M5OJQJ^Jh(4Mh Xr5OJQJ^Jh(4MhV,5OJQJ^Jh(4Mh(4M5OJQJ^Jh6NhV,OJQJ^JhEEuh*pOJQJ^Jh(4MOJQJ^JhEEuh6NOJQJ^JhEEuhV,OJQJ^JhEEuOJQJ^JhDOJQJ^JhDhd75OJQJ^JhDhD5OJQJ^J/JSTfw$Z$[$\$$$$"%#%¸sh,hDOJQJ^Jh4iOJQJ^JhDh5PJhDhD5OJQJ^JhDOJQJ^JUh*pOJQJ^JhlOJQJ^Jh(4Mh%OJQJ^Jh(4MhV,OJQJ^Jh(4MOJQJ^Jh(4Mh4iOJQJ^Jh(4Mh XrOJQJ^J The possible role of the UCT in these discussions will be considered in future meetings.
