André Brouillette, S.J.

Associate Professor, Systematic and Spiritual Theology

Profile

A Jesuit priest originally from Rivière-du-Loup (Québec, Canada), André Brouillette earned graduate degrees in philosophy, history, and theology in Europe and North America. He taught philosophy and Church history for two years in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, prior to joining the faculty of the ɬ﷬ Clough School of Theology and Ministry. He has been a visiting scholar at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid, Spain, and the holder of the Anna and Donald Waite Endowed Chair in Jesuit Education at Creighton University, in Omaha, Nebraska, as well as a visiting professor at the Carmelite School of Theology Teresianum in Rome. Since 2021, he is the general editor of the Classics of Western Spirituality (Paulist Press).

An expert on St. Teresa of Avila, he specializes in 16th and 17th century spiritual theology and history, the systematic theological issues of pneumatology and soteriology, and pilgrimage studies. His first book, Le lieu du salut: Une pneumatologie d’incarnation chez Thérèse d’Ávila, has been published in the prestigious series Cogitatio fidei by the Editions du Cerf, in Paris, and later translated in English under the title, Teresa of Avila, the Holy Spirit, and the Place of Salvation. His second monograph, The Pilgrim Paradigm: Faith in Motion, explores the theology of pilgrimage. He is also the co-editor of Pilgrimage as Spiritual Practice: A Handbook for Teachers, Guides, and Wayfarers, Minneapolis: Fortress. In Boston, Fr. Brouillette accompanies the Communauté catholique francophone of Boston.
