Orientation Leader
The Office of First Year Experience is looking for approximately 36 Orientation Leaders to prepare for the arrival of and serve as guides to incoming first-year students, transfer students and their parents/guardians. This is an in-person position and living in campus housing is a requirement of the role.
Orientation Leaders will:
- Attend all of the non-negotiable and mandatory Orientation commitments listed in the 鈥淩equired Dates鈥 tab, including the Orientation Leader retreat, trainings, development sessions, and the 7 three-day Orientation sessions.
- Serve as a well-balanced ambassador of the University, demonstrated through representation of the institution鈥檚 mission, familiarization with resources, and a willingness to share parts of their own 涩里番下载 journey.
- Communicate with parents and students about the transition to 涩里番下载 through mediums such as videos, panels, social media, group and individual conversations.
- Facilitate small group discussions with incoming students around themes related to the transition to college and answering questions about the resources and opportunities at 涩里番下载.
- Support the academic advising and registration process by being knowledgeable about the policies and requirements of MCAS, CSOM, CSON, and LSEHD with special emphasis on the Orientation Leader鈥檚 particular college.
- Support multiple dimensions of logistics for a complex program - from event check-in to crowd management to seating.
- Be an available resource for Academic Convocation in September 2025 (unless you will be studying abroad in the fall of 2025).

Orientation Content Creation Team
The Office of First Year Experience is looking for 1-2 knowledgeable and talented undergraduate students to serve on the Orientation Content Creation Team for the summer of 2025. This position will work alongside the staff of the Office of First Year Experience, Orientation Coordinators, and Orientation Leaders to develop and share content for the FYE social media channels that is engaging to incoming first-year students and their families. Additionally, the content creation team will work with FYE on recording and creating video content to be displayed during orientation and for footage to be used in future summers.
The Orientation Content Creation Team will:
Participate as a member of the Orientation program with special responsibility for planning, curating, posting and managing the FYE social media channels.聽
Capture, edit, and organize footage during each Orientation session.
Capture, edit, and organize photos for FYE use such as headshot photographs and short introductory videos of the Orientation Leaders for publication on the FYE website.
Refine the FYE social media strategy and develop approaches for garnering new followers and engaging social media audiences.
Plan and manage the FYE social media calendar in order to provide appropriately segmented resources for first-year students and their parents/guardians.聽
Design and Create a video introducing the Orientation Leaders to incoming students to be shown during each orientation session
Provide community management support by communicating with followers and addressing questions in the inbox in a timely and professional manner.
Create, edit and post high-quality assets that thoughtfully and creatively engage the FYE followers.
Perform other functions in support of the Orientation program such as speaking on a panel and other duties as assigned.
Attend all of the non-negotiable and mandatory Orientation program commitments listed in the 鈥淩equired Dates鈥 tab.

You must be able to attend all of the non-negotiable and mandatory Orientation Leader commitments listed in the 鈥淩equired Dates鈥 tab.
You must currently be an undergraduate student at 涩里番下载.
You must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the University.
You must have a demonstrated interest in social media and/or videography and a desire to serve incoming students and their parents/guardians.
Spring Planning: Given the planning required for Orientation Content Creation, in coordination with other staff members in FYE, the Orientation Content Creators will need to make themselves available for two spring brainstorming and planning meetings. Additionally, the Content Creation Team will be required to be available to work on social media planning, posting and community management during the months of April and May. This spring social media work will be compensated on an hourly basis.聽

Compensation & Benefits
Summer Housing: On-campus individual summer housing will be provided to the Orientation Leaders from the end of finals through Orientation Session 6 (Wednesday, July 23, 2025). No housing is provided, for the three week period between July 24 - August 14. Orientation Leaders must move into 涩里番下载 fall on-campus or off-campus housing on August 15, 2025 in order to be present for Session 7 responsibilities.
Food: During the retreat, training, development sessions, and Orientation sessions, meals will be provided.
Compensation: A stipend of $3,200 (pre-tax) will be paid in weekly installments throughout the summer.聽聽
Intensive Leadership Development: One of the core elements of the Orientation experience is to access opportunities to reflect individually and with peers, learn from 涩里番下载 administrators, participate in team building activities, and receive coaching. Through a retreat, training, and development sessions in tandem with the execution of their role responsibilities, Orientation Leaders will grow in their leadership competencies.聽
Flexibility: Orientation Leaders can hold part-time jobs, internships or attend summer school classes provided that these additional responsibilities do not interfere with any of the required dates. Please be aware there are limits to the number of hours per week that students can work a secondary summer position through 涩里番下载. Further details will be provided to Orientation Leaders, once hired.

Recommendation: This must be a 涩里番下载 administrator, a 涩里番下载 faculty member, advisor, or a professional who works with 涩里番下载 students (ie. Pulse placement supervisor) who can speak to your character and qualifications as an Orientation Leader (or Content Creator). This recommendation may not come from another undergraduate student. Recommendations are due January 20, 2025.

Tips
The application process for serving as an Orientation Leader is robust. Here are some tips for managing the process:
- Quadruple Check All Dates.聽Those who serve as an Orientation Leader are聽required to attend every commitment listed without exception.聽All of the Orientation dates listed in the 鈥淩equired Dates鈥 tab are non-negotiable and mandatory. Before you submit your application, be sure you have no conflicts and can fully commit to the Orientation Leader requirements.聽聽
- Make a plan.聽Be sure to review the Orientation Team application due dates and requirements. Consider who you want to ask to fill out your recommendations, and map out how you plan to approach fulfilling all the elements of the application.
- Don鈥檛 wait until the last minute鈥聽either to start working on your application materials or to ask your recommenders for their recommendations. Your application materials, including your recommendations, are due by 11:59 on January 21, but we encourage you to submit your materials early!
- Be attentive to your Recommendations & Refences.聽Be sure to pay careful attention to the recommendation requirements. You will need to send your recommenders your Eagle ID number to complete the聽聽on your behalf, and you will receive an automated email when we have received your recommendations when we have received your recommendations. Don鈥檛 forget to reach out early!

Upon the completion of their role on the Orientation Team, students will be able to:聽
- Operate as a well-balanced representative of a complex organization, integrating personal experience with information gained through training, in order to guide incoming students to appropriate institutional resources.聽
- Facilitate connections amongst constituents from diverse ages, backgrounds and roles, and between these constituents and the University, through different modes of conversation.聽
- Practice the competencies required in a professional setting, including effective communication, self-understanding, dependability, and collaboration.
